If you're facing dryness, static, or brittleness in these cold months, you're not alone! Nearly every guest who sits in my chair expresses one of those three concerns to me during this season. We are in Arizona where it is dry during the summer, but somehow drier during the winter months. For this reason we are all searching for the best advice to keep our locks healthy, moisturized, and fresh. Below you'll find my favorite products and tips to keep your hair in tip-top shape while Jack Frost is doing his thing.
Dryness: We all know the hair needs moisture to combat the dryness in the air, but did you know that the reason we get static is also because of dryness? Yep. The hair is literally reaching out for mositure in the air. My best recommendation during these months is to be extra thorough with a leave-in moisturizer and oil routine. For those who aren't familiar with this: you want to think of your hair as a sponge, absorbing whatever we put onto it. We want to put in a leave-in conditioner when we get out of the shower, yes. But we also want to put some in on our dry hair daily. This is because moisture will evaporate. After we apply the leave-in, we then want to seal in that moisture with an oil or serum. Remember and repeat after me: oil is a sealant, not a moisturizer! If you put oil on top of dry hair, you are sealing in dryness. If you put oil on top of moisturized hair, you are sealing in moisture.

Now! Even though I'm in Phoenix, not everyone who reads this is. So I do feel the need to touch on the issue of wet hair and frigid weather. First of all, I'm begging you not to go outside with wet hair during this season. I don't want anyone getting sick, okay?? Secondly: If you are in an area where you are commuting / snowboarding / otherwise outdoors in the frigid cold, please take the time to tuck your hair into a hat so that your hair does not suffer. I recently saw an IG Reel where a woman tucked her hair into a beanie but put in clip-ins on either side of her hat so she could have cute danglies coming out of her snowboarding helmet. Wet hair + frigid = frozen hair. Literally . And it will snap off. Please save yourself the misery.
The primary thing to remember with all of this is we need extra moisture during this time. You may want to see your stylist for a moisture treatment and an extra trim. Or maybe invest in a hair masque to use once a week. Either way, the sun will come out soon enough :)
